Thu 17th May - Ascension Day

Ascension Day

On Ascension Day in the city of Brugge the people

of the city join together in a procession around the

city and depict in word and drama the Biblical Story:

from Adam and Eve to the Ascension and Pentecost.

The clergy then follow at the end of the Procession

carrying a phial, containing according to tradition, the

Blood of our Lord – which is venerated by those

attending the celebration.

At this time we pray for the three fold link between

the Dioceses of Brugge, Lincoln and Nottingham;

For the chairs of the Link Committees: Fr. Henk

Laridon (Flemish Committee) and Canon John

Patrick (English Committee).

Pray for the Diocese of Brugge at a time of challenge

and change and for the English Committee as it

looks again at how to best serve God's purpose and

that together we may take small steps toward unity

and greater understanding.

The Link Prayer:

Lord Jesus Christ

We pray for unity:

unity between all who confess your name

unity between people of all nations and races

unity within families.

Let the flame of unity burn in our hearts and not

be extinguished by the wind of division.

Let us not become divided, broken, hostile to

ourselves but enfold us with the seamless garment

woven from a single cloth in which you suffered for

us.

Please pray for those to be Confirmed this

evening at Immingham by the Bishop of Grimsby and

at Boultham, Holy Cross by the Bishop of Grantham

Sheffield (York, England)

The Rt. Revd Steven Croft

Sheffield – Doncaster

The Rt. Revd Peter Burrows
