A Pastoral Letter from Bishop Stephen
Bishop Stephen has written to the people of the Diocese of Lincoln, following the conclusion of the Makin Review four-step process.
Read the storyThe Diocese of Lincoln holds an inaugural Synod at the beginning of each new triennium, following the confirmation of the election of representatives from across the Diocese.
This special meeting marks the start of a new three-year term for the Diocesan Synod, which typically convenes three times a year.
A service took place in the nave of Lincoln Cathedral to officially begin the proceedings grounded in prayer, peace and the presence of God.
The Bishop of Lincoln, the Rt Revd Stephen Conway, presided over the service and the Bishop’s Chaplain, the Revd Nick Nawrockyi, preached a sermon.
The sermon was about the God who calls us to follow him, and sends us out into the world to do the work of his Kingdom – but that God doesn’t call us to do this work alone, but together. Holy Communion was offered to everybody present.
The Bishop of Lincoln, the Rt Revd Stephen Conway, began the meeting with an opening address. He spoke about Diocesan Synod as the accountable body for our diocesan life.
During the meeting, Synod members discuss and express opinions on various matters of religious and public interest.
There was plenty of time for small groups to come together and discuss various topics such as:
Synod members heard testimonies from young people, including Adam and Lenny (pictured below), about the importance of their faith and having the confidence to exhibit their faith in everyday life – including with other students at school and in the community.
Synod broke into small groups to reflect on what they heard in the testimonies and consider what ‘Good News’ means to each of them on an individual level.
Synod closed formally with a prayer led by the Bishop of Lincoln.
